REFLECTION: Some techniques that I used were creating a slab from the clay and coiling. For the circular pieces, coiling was very much needed. I had tried using a slab of clay to just cut one long piece that had a rectangular view, but it kept falling off. The coiling technique gave me more of an advantage to wrap around and acquire the organic form that I wanted. I also took some ideas from our visiting artist. To make the circular kind of shape I need to bake it in a mold so it would hold its shape. I struggled with this for a bit trying to find a material that would help give the clay a form, but would still be safe to bake in the oven with. I settled on using foil. I took the foil and to get the circular shape, I wrapped it around a perfume bottle to create the mold. One problem that had occurred was when I was doing a test bake, to see how long it would take for the clay to get hard. Some pieces broke off or cracked. Learning online, more so in this class, it has impacted my learning significantly, I feel as, without the proper shops and workspaces, it is more difficult. However, I feel that with all the examples we have been given, it made it a bit easier to get some work done.
