In Rosie Schaap’s piece in the podcast “This American Life” she talks about an excerpt from her upcoming book about when she was young and would interact with various men in the bar cart on her train rides home from New York City. I found her piece to be extremely beautiful and deeply personal. I think the personal nature of this piece is what made it so compelling to me. The way she described her experiences as a young woman in contrast to the older men she interacted with were fascinating and told a sort of truth about her life and who she is that definitely sticks with a person. The tone of her voice definitely brought her words to life and made the story easy to imagine, which is a sign of a good story, in my opinion. I’m interested to hear more from Rosie Schaap after hearing this piece.
