Research behind the Atlas Revisited

Research behind the Atlas Revisited, Within and Without

Throughout the creation and development of my Studio project, I had to carry out some research in order to reproduce my intention and design as accurately as possible. The project revolved around the idea of memory, and I chose one I have with my dad from childhood. My father and I always used to listen to our favourite song throughout the car rides from home to school, and I decided to project its lyrics onto my skin and create a short performance in complete silence.
My first research step was digging back into this specific memory and writing down, in bullet points, everything I could remember from those car rides and from my feelings at the time. Throughout the second step, I called my dad and asked him to describe to me how he remembered our route to school, not only to confirm what I alone remembered but also to understand how he viewed these and how he perceived our connection and relationship throughout them. Furthermore, I looked the song up and copied its lyrics onto my computer in order to be able to then project it onto my skin. After that I moved onto the more physical aspect of the project, and rented a projector in order to personally view the effect writing projected on skin had. This process probably lasted more than the other ones because I wasn’t able to achieve the desired effect until the very end. I later uploaded these clips onto a computer and edited its colours and speed.
