Today, we went out to draw Parisian architecture. Students were asked to observe and sketch a facade of a building along the river Seine in preparation for a Lino cut workshop in the afternoon.
After lunch, French artist illustrator and print maker Joelle Jolivet was our guest speaker. She presented her linocut work to the class: children books, book cover designs as well as proofs of an upcoming book about Paris with amazing drawings of Parisian streets. She explained her process and demonstrated carving and printing.
With her help, students engraved their drawings of a Parisian building into a rubber plate. They inked them and printed a collaborative graphic ‘street’ with multi color inks. The final prints are beautiful.
