Day 13

The day was spend doing a portrait workshop. We studied average proportions of the human head and face as well as the work of painter Lucian Freud.

The students were paired as artists and models and took turn drawing each other.

Using the visual sizing method learned the first week, they observed and constructed the main features of their partners. They discovered that our skulls are bigger than they thought and features occupy a small portion of the face.

Everyone completed a portrait of their partner in pencils. All were shocked when they looked around the room and saw the quality of the portraits. Although half of the class had never done a portrait before, you could recognize all the students in the class in the portraits. This exercise demonstrates how much learning as happened in our studio. Impressive!
