Theatre, Arts, Community, Justice

As an aspiring theatre/community/justice artist, I’m always on the lookout for visionary artists and artmaking for inspiration and sustenance. Among the artists and work currently on my radar are Liza Jessie Peterson–Crown Heights-based performer and poet–and her piece “The Peculiar Patriot,” a performative telling of the intimacies of mass incarceration.

My practice is rooted in Theatre of the Oppressed which continues to nurture and inform my work. A methodology created by Brazilian artist and director Augusto Boal, Theatre of the Oppressed inspires cultural transformation, building solidarity amongst social actors to rehearse alternative, revolutionary action.

With the new semester upon us, I’m looking forward to the critical work at Lang ahead!
