Plastics

Week 1:

I use a lot of ziploc bags. Ziploc bags are a LDPE type of plastics which means that they are strong and durable and can float. It is a film like material. I use it to freeze fruits and vegtables that I know I will not eat during the week, but want to use later. I use tupperware for everything else but since there is no way to take the air out of those, I opt for ziploc bags. This week, I used 5 different bags after I went grocery shopping. The next day I made cookies and wanted to freeze some dough so I used another one. Then I used a few more for sandwhiches and other things throughout the week. I feel like I either use it for a week or a couple of hours. Once I am done using it, I recycle it. There have not been new efforts to reduce the use of these until recently. I just found some reusable sandwhich bags online. The reviews say that they are hard to clean and are not air tight.

Week 2:

This week I have been using a lot of plastic water bottles. The water in my dorm is coming out milky and white and I do not trust my brita filter for water that dirty. I have been using plastic water bottles for mostly drinking water. I bought a small case of smart water at the store and have gone through 12. This is a PETE type of bottle. If I can at the UC, or somewhere with trustworthy water I will refill it. The longest I have ever had one bottle is 1 day. After use most plastics like this are either recycled into something else or are put into landfill. Normal water bottles are better for the enviroment. I have a hydro flask, but that can only work if I trust the water coming out of my faucet.
