Reflection

Notes:

5 Mantras:

  1. Be aware
  2. You get what you get
  3. Help others
  4. Not knowing is okay
  5. Have fun

For my final Studio project I wanted to share five ways I have learned to live by as a freshman in college.

I was inspired by Stefan Sagmeister’s poster of his body with etchings of the information for a show he was having. I love the idea of something being on your body and becoming a part of you, even if it is temporary.

I wrote these mantras on the back of my neck in sharpie.

I chose the back of my neck because it is a place that you can never see with your eyes, only in mirrors or photographs. Meaning the five mantras are always on my body and a part of me, even though I might not always see them or be thinking about them.

I feel as though these mantras I have written are really helpful to think about every day and I wanted to find a way to share it with people.

I decided to publish a pamphlet called “5 Things”.

I have written the first issue, but the point of the pamphlet is to publish 5 things local New Yorkers want to share with their community.

They can share recipes, things they keep in their bags, 5 bad things that happened to them one day, really any five things.

I am planning on putting these pamphlets on the street, in coffee shops and even hand some out at the entrances to busy subways.

I really don’t know what will be the outcome of this, or if there even will be an outcome, but I’m excited to find out.

If people did reach out to me with 5 things they would like to share I would publish their 5 things and hopefully start a mini publication.
