  • ANALYZE – Choose from the open questions below or create your
own questions: (You must have five different questions – and then answer them.)

    • What relationships do you notice among the elements?
    • Practicing Bomhian Arising:
What connections do you make between he piece you experienced and anything else you are thinking about, learning about, sensing about?
  • Ah, well I went through different emotions mainly it was very hard for me to listen to what Jessica was saying, the explanation about each tile, the relationship of class, chanel on top of a Mexican cien peso. Yes I understand what she was saying about capitalism, consumerism, exploiting “Impoverished” countries- although I am Mexican, I lived in Mexico, I get where she is coming from although, I don’t agree. I don’t like using first world and third world, who decides these labels, also I feel It’s hard for me to listen to someone to my own assumptions I have about their background. Also I get it, in vietnam, and china, where all these super expensive clothes are produced and sold to the wealthy here because the dollar is worth more and ect…. My experience living in Mexico was also very different because compared to the rest of my family there, I have US citizenship, I have grown up completely different from my cousins and had other opportunities (although they weren’t exactly given to me), my mother is bohemian, my aunts and cousins are not…. I didn’t grow up there. The united states also has poverty, it is just different.
  • CONTEXT: READ their Artist Statement, View their Artwork and Answer the following questions (Interpret).

Jessica, definitely  has a way about her, what really sticks out to me is her use of language. Sometimes, I feel as if it is a bit too literal, although trying to go out of the box, yet not extremely abstract. String, yarn, and thread is an interesting choice though

  • INTERPRET: Practicing Bomhian Arising/ Self Noticing:
      • Yes some things I noticed I guess.. within myself were how much of a home made look it has… I feel that it has a scrapbook element which I am not particularly drawn to, although it is charming. I just feel, it is very soft, while I think oh thread can kill people, threads break, what about floss.. I´m not sure, I feel that there is this aggression inside of me… And I can relate more to Ganelle’s work, where it more contemporary, dark, mysterious..

Written response should include:

  • What elements of design do you notice – and how do those portray the essence of the piece? (You will need to decide what the essence is… is it concrete, is it representational, is it abstract, is it symbolic (of what), are you “receiving” any emotions from the piece?)

The design kind of scrapbook-esq, and obviously hand made. The piece also kind of reminds me of a design of a Tibetan Buddhist flag, also each square in Jessica’s piece has a different meaning

  • If you could tell the artist anything about their work – what would you say? (Remember that they will be reading this and that it is public.)

Ahhhh Jessica, I think that.. It is great how you are trying to create a political body of work, as I grow bored with abstract expressionism, and also some contemporary art has too much obscured meaning. Although sometimes i feel that maybe it is just a little too ridged? If that makes sense? Although, That is just my personal style, it is so difficult for me to be absolute, or concrete.

On instagram look up @enormousface or @poncilicreation @breadandpuppet

maybe you should check out Liquid Sky the movie..

although i wouldn’t listen to anything I say or take it too seriously

  • If you could recommend a website, article, book, artist, film, blog to the artist because of associations you made in your mind or through the Bohmian Arising – What would you recommend? (Remember that they will be reading this and that it is public.)
