For my final project in my other class, I’m researching what Brooklyn used to be like in the past. So, as I was walking around I was really focusing on the pictures that I found of how buildings used to look like, and finding those actual buildings in real life. This is a drawing I did based off of an old photograph of Brooklyn.

I walked around Williamsburg, more specifically around the area where my friend lives. I had to go to Williamsburg for my final project in my Time class, so I used that opportunity to turn it into a sensory walk. Brooklyn is very different than Manhattan in my perspective. The streets are more open, and the sidewalks are also larger. I also felt like there was significantly less people than in Manhattan, and they don’t walk as fast. This area was more community minded, and the people seemed more open to talking to strangers. The streets were surprisingly only a little bit less dirty than those of Manhattan, as I still saw a few trash bags lying on the side of the street. For the majority of the walk, the air felt cleaner and clearer than Manhattan because there was less pollution from cars and sewers. However, at one point, we passed a food truck so the fumes from that polluted the air and made it smell bad. Overall, the atmosphere in Brooklyn is much more open and the life is less fast paced than in New York. The sidewalks and streets are cleaner, and the air feels clearer.
