The New School Art Collection Research

“I’m interested in this hazy space, in which the cry of many voices, melds the events of today into the mythologies of tomorrow, which somehow resemble the mythologies of yesterday. ”

This quote was from William Villalongo’s artist statement which is on the home page of his website, williamvillalongo.com. I thought it was relevant to the piece of The New School’s art collection that I chose “Funky Space Reincarnation”. In the library on a pillar between huge dark windows, is a graphic print that I feel demonstrates that kind of passageway between reality and something else in a way that makes you ask questions. In his bio, he talks about wanting his work to be a “conversation between history and art which could give us the progressive discussions of the future.”

The artist was originally born in Hollywood, FL in 1975 and raised in the town of Bridgeton, NJ. Today he lives works in Brooklyn, and has received many prestigious awards and has had his work featured in the Studio Museum In Harlem, The Whitney Museum of American Art  and Princeton University Art Museum.
