Preliminary Research Post

“I am not interested in the past, except as the road to the future.” This is a quote from Gianni Versace, died July 15, 1997, Italian fashion designer known for Brand called Versace and his daring fashions. For this project, I searched for different things in his arts, design, humanities and the message to us.

This is the  4 potential/preliminary research questions  about Versace:

  1. How did he get all Inspiration of the design?
  2. What was his best advertisement for a brand?
  3. What is the most emblematic design of the brand? And how did they effect?
  4. What was the great achievement he did after launching the brand?

Multiple Perspectives – Map-making

ARTIST STATEMENT

When people talk about New York City, you can never forget the old historical buildings and tall skyscrapers. Our project, One New York, focuses on the architectural part of the Lower Manhattan. We planned out the shape of the route before hand, which was shape of “1”. Realizing the size and overwhelming feeling of the skyscrapers and aesthetic old antique buildings, we decided to make a psychogeographic map of our route mainly based with architectural designs. Since the skyscrapers are huge, we decided to make a big size sculpture to give the overwhelming feeling to the viewers. The buildings are drawn with pencils and with architectural drawing style. Since there were many pop up cards in Lower Manhattan, we made the drawing to be pop up. The “1” is made with cardboard and painted with simmer gray acrylic paint to show the dullness of the lower/ middle Manhattan and the bottom “_” part is made with plexi glass since there were many skyscrapers which are made with glass windows. Over the window, are fire exit staircase, a very iconic image of Soho houses. It is made out of metal wire to creat a realistic feeling of the stairs.

Int.Seminar_Multiple Perspectives Map

For Bridge Project 3 – Multiple Perspectives Map, we made a map by addressing a single topic from many points of view. This was based on articles “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” and “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?”. We visualized the comparison of opinions into seesaw and  emoticons. The article,”Is Google Making Us Stupid?” is about research and opinions to various aspects of  both psychological and working process. Similar but different, the article, “Is Facebook Making Us Lonely?” is more focused on the effects on our psychological relationship with Social Networking Service.

Self Reflection:

  • When you reflect on Bridge 3, are your thoughts overall positive or negative? Why?

I’m neutral about it. I learned how to analyze articles and shared opinions with peers. However, two articles had different atmosphere(theme) about the Internet. So I thought there weren’t many of common points.

  • What is the most interesting discovery you made while working on this project? (about the project, about yourself, about your group members, etc.)

About the project, I discovered that there can be lot of points and aspects in one article. And in the process of paraphrasing into our words and making it as a visual expression, we needed many communications together.

  • What were some of the most challenging moments and what made them challenging?

Getting into the concept of the map was challenging. Because we had to contrast and bring into a comparison map. Also, the opinions in the articles were abstract and literally written, we had to make an emotion pictures to describe that sentences in recognizable senses.
