Extracorporeal bonds

Independent connections within Tango

Always connected at the chest area, accompanied by fluent leg movements and rigid shoulders, tango speaks about a connection between two individuals. To create a strong bond, both partners need a clear axis. The independence of each partner and clear bond between them is my main inspiration for creating my line-up. An emphasis on the back, where most security occurs (as the partner is there to hold you) and a vulnerability on the front pieces, where the partner’s chests join, will be portrayed throughout. The knots are common in my garments and 3D exploration, where a joining of two pieces, metaphorically represent the two partners, both strong and independent but choosing to be together.

The color theme, that ranges from passion colours (including magenta and red) that manifest the inner, deeper connection, to darker colours like Black, that form the more structural and rigid back forms, expressing the strong and independent personality of the dancers. Inspired by a dance with a close relationship with the bodies, recurring topics talk about sensuality, passion and an outer body experience, shown by forms and colours imitating the human body (like the spine and ribcage).

As you can already guess, my name is Oihana. I will be sharing my work during my first year as an Art student at Parsons Paris. Hope you enjoy it!
