Figure Ground Post

The first step I took for this assignment was deciding what I wanted my collage to look like. Truthfully, I decided to make the first thing I thought of which happened to be a dragon. I googled images of dragons and chanced upon the outline of the dragon I used for my collage. I made the outline 8 in x 8 in and printed the outline. I used trace paper and carbon paper to draw the outlines of each part of the dragon’s face on newspaper and cut them out then pieced them together to form it’s face. I didn’t realize how many pieces were actually on the dragon’s face until I started cutting each part out. I mainly used the colored sections of the newspaper to show contrast between the different parts of the dragon’s face. Since the next part of the assignment required this image computerized I scanned my college. I needed shapes from my collage to create different images so I used the pen tool on illustrator and chose different shapes from my collage at random. The outcome of the images I made using the shapes from my collage are also found on this post. What I found difficult about the second part of this assignment was creating the outlines of the shapes I was going to use for my different images because I was unfamiliar with Illustrator and I had never used the pen tool before. Not only that, forming images from the shapes I outlined was difficult because the shapes I took from my collage weren’t your average geometric shapes so deciding what to make became harder because I didn’t know what I could make with what I had. After just playing around and moving the shapes around I came up with the images seen in this post.

I am pretentious and ambivalent about myself and unbelievably naive and my favorite piece of writing is "When I Look at a Strawberry, I think of a Tongue"
