VIDEO PROPOSAL

Concept:

Not a linear story, a kind of mash up of interviews with students and b roll of them, their clothes, as well as other b roll of fashion and stuff

Goal/intended purpose:

Explore the students of the parsons summer program’s identities, cultures, similarities, and differences through the clothes that they wear and how their clothing empowers them.

WHO – students at in the summer program!

WHAT – ^ students, their outfits, close ups of them and of their clothes (get personal, get textures, get details), b-roll in stores: clothes, going through the racks, people walking down the street, etc.

WHERE – DIY studio in the parsons dorms (stuyvesant park): set up a backdrop (plain white background most likely), studio lights, tripod, on the streets around where we have class, in stores
WHEN – b-roll outside of interviews during class time, interviews on saturday during the day

HOW – shoot with 2 cameras, one focusing on wider shots and the other on close ups in the interviews with students, maybe a third camera angle wide to make it more dynamic?

Has any media work already been produced on this subject? Show us examples of these references and explain what is new, different, interesting, engaging about your approach?

Style? (Any key stylistic elements in shooting, audio, editing, etc.). Show two examples (these can, of course, be from the lists we showed you in class)

Definitely media work has already been produced on this subject, we took inspiration from the Calvin Klein video that we watched in class, need one more example. We are focusing on teenagers, artists, people who came to new york city from all kinds of different places to be here.

Need someone always focused on talking to the people, someone monitoring the audio, two people taking video

DEEP TRAVEL PROJECT

This photo essay is about taking a food such as an orange and taking it apart in a anormal way and its process of consumption from being who to all messed up and how this common used fruit has atributes that people dont notice when eating it. I think this photo essay is sucessful because it has a distintive color or blue and orange that work well together as well that i was able to capture the little details of the fruit that nobody notice in them as well of getting my point across by having several people understand it.

Questions for Bill Owen

When did you realize you wanted to be a photographer?

How do you figure out what kind of themes you want to portray in your work?

Who is your biggest inspiration?

What do you think it takes to become a great photographer?

What is the process when you are shooting?

If you could define your photographs in one word, what would it be?

If you could give one word of advice to a teen who is hoping to go into this kind of work, what would you say?

Do you have freedom in the creative and technical process?

I didn’t find the persistence of vision poster I google it.

This resonated with me because of how during this time they thought of adding color to this frame by just painting it with a marker and for it to turn out so good and realistic. What makes this successful is the composition of it, how they arrange the fruit surrounding the message and the golden frame surrounding the frame. They use the persistence of vision by taking still this frame and mixing it with others that allow an animated video to appear.

This resonated with me because I founded cool how if you look from the top there was no movement can you could only see each individual frame, while if you looked through the side and the little holes you could clearly see movement and it was awesome to understand why it does that. This is successful because you can see the movement which is the purpose of this machine. They used the perspective of vision because it created the illusion that a man was actually running when are just frames spinning fast which makes that illusion happen and the space between each hole too.

This was interesting because in this interactive exhibition you could record the line of the movie, record it an then replace it with the original scene of the movie which made it really funny if you said things ina exaggerated way. This showed how important is could and monologues to a movie and the tone of the scene and how it flows with al the other factors. This is connected to the persistence of vision in another way because is how the sound affects the way you see a movie or a scene and how much it changes.

What resonated more to me about this picture is how the color value with in makes the viewer feel unease like something terrible is going to happen, a negative feeling. The composition is powerful because they got the darkest part in the middle, attracting the viewer into that spot and the lightest tone surrowding it, implementig contrast in the upper part and allowing thefeeling nd message to get across. What make this photo successful in the color, by being black and white it gives more feeling to it that waht it would give if it was in color. In my opinion the concept is depression, the image looks like a never ending storm and it radiates sadness and grieve. If the photographer made this image by using water I think that they should have their shuttle speed hight to get the image look still.

What resonated more to me about this image was the processes and look behind it, It was printed in a traditional japanise paper and then with gold which allowed the image to have a metalic look to it.The composition wa sreally symetrical wit teh two rocks side by side allowing in the middle the view of the sea even if in the background you can see a mountain the the left side almoust kind of applying  the rule of thirds. What makes this picture successful is teh symmetry throughout and the shinning colors that makes you wanting to keep looking. The concept I would give to this image is far because everything seems so distant to the viewer, the mountain, the see even the rocks and kind of far. The concept tehy used is implemented in teh printing of how he used this paper only made in this country of origin and implemented gold into it making a pressiation to it and even if his country is far  away from hin the image still has a part of it.

I found this mage interesting because is almoust like an optical illusion when you just want to find every genital that is hidden . Some elements of composition is that it does not have a point of focus, the colors are inverted and the photographer emphasise the image with some pencil. What makes this photo successful is that it acomplishes its goal which is make people keep looking at it and notice every detail that is hidden. The photographers concept is to make the image complex and simple enought so the viewer can figure out what they are actually seeing. They implement their concept throught editing the image so the colors change and it can cause that aesthetic teh photographer is going for.

Coney Island Photo Essay + Artist Statement

What every single picture has in common is that all have a Shallow Deep of Focus and every single person are doing what they were doing before the picture was taken giving a natural feel to the photograph.

Artist Statement:

Everybody has their own story and photography allows me to capture a glance of who people are at a certain moment of their life. What brings people into the same place and time and how this art allows me to show it. My goal is to demonstrate how people are when no one is looking, to see what they do and why they do it. To expose the things that often ignore or glance over and find out their true nature.”

COMMENTARY TOWARDS TONY HISS AND R. MURRAY SCHAFER ESSAYS

When looking superficially at this two essays one may think that they are talking about random stuff but in reality from what I got from their words is that us as photographers, artist, people we need to be conscious about the world around us, what is happening behind what we see. knowledge the space we are in and the people who were here before us and everything that has happened so we are here in space. Listen carefully, we aware of every single sound and its effect on us and our surroundings. And wonder about everything because everything is connected and is part of the picture. You trigger that sense of wonder by getting out of my comfort zone, listen to others and allow myself to learn from them. You made us read these pieces so in the future we can take in consideration more than “if we got the perfect shot” you want us to portray something and us being consciously aware of it. I will do this by knowing where I am, why I am here, talking to people, listening to their stories, and developing those stories into photographs. This two reading will allow me to create more meaningful work and take in consideration what is being said for me to improve my skills during this course ad the future.

Experimenting photos II HW 8/9

I used the stop motion technique to by making the aperture more narrow, slowing the shutter and having a low ISO.

I used the brokeh technique where i applies a shallow deep of field where i had a wide aperture, a fast shutter speed and low ISO of a 100.

For this last technique I had a narrow aperture, a low shutter speed allowing it to create the effect of the object moving when is just the lense zooming in and out and lastly a average ISO.
