REFLECTION

Lucy Macae’s Ted Talk Honestly has me concerned. When she discussed mixing biology and technology and what that entailed I was nervous. My instant reaction is we ( inventors/scientist) shouldn’t be messing with the body and biology. I think humans should be natural and practice a more holistic lifestyle. I care for pills and technology to heal or better us. When people discuss these “advancements” I see things backfiring honestly. I think this due to having little faith in humans. I think we can often be selfish, egotistical, emotional and utterly irrational. I don’t think humans are stable enough for the already advanced technology we have so her ideas have me wary.

Neil Harbisson Ted Talk was fascinating. In many ways it was along the lines of Lucy; however, Harbisson talk was addressing more “Significant” problems. I understood his desire as a color-blind individual to see color, and moreover, I can see other people with weaker senses wanting to enhance them. With that in mind, I still stand by my earlier statement and think there should be regulations on these projects. I think we should only address crucial issues with technology but not superficial matters.

The purpose behind viewing these materials so to understand what wearable extensions can mean to us, humans. How they can be
valuable designs that improve our daily lives. Or, on the other hand, something more convenient but not necessary. That’s at least what I took away from these videos, the full potential meaning to this subject. It was very intriguing.
