Paris Map Website

For this project, I chose seven different locations based on my experience of Paris within the past month and a half of being here. These locations were the ones I found myself going back to multiple times, and this has still stayed true although I do visit the area around Parsons a lot more now that school has opened. I wanted to include these neighborhoods while also highlighting larger areas like the Metro and the Seine because they are such an important part of Paris.  Going back to these places for the sake of documenting them and observing, I noticed a lot of new things, an example of this being the grumpy old ladies by my apartment, and how many people sit along the entirety of the seine when the weather is nice outside.  I used mini drawings of icons for each location on the map and a map of Paris which I made on QGIS.  Reflecting on this project I am proud that I was able to collect this because it will always be something I can look back on to remember how I viewed Paris at one point.  I now also have the option of adding more locations as they seem fit, which would be a great way to keep a diary.  I also was blown away by the other projects in the class, and how different Paris seems to be when places like cafes and bars are open and people don’t have to be inside by 18h.  These projects just showed me another reason why I need to come back again when Covid is further under control.

Feedback

I was very happy with the feedback which I received on this project.  I definitely want to continue to push my coding skills in order to improve the interactivity of the map because it is part of what made it enjoyable for people to explore.  I’m glad my illustrations meshed well with the photos and colors and the class was able to identify these locations through the page.  Since I’m new to the city I was worried that I would maybe have gotten the wrong idea of the neighborhoods, but I’m glad I was able to show them correctly because I didn’t want it to be an overly personalized experience of the city.  I definitely want to share this website with my friends at home as a way to share my experience.
