Proposal

For the Margins project, Aditi and I will be creating a café for Romainville with the goal of creating a space for locals and a more collaborative environment.  We want to source the ingredients from local stores and plan the brand touchpoints. One of the main parts of this café is that it will have communal journals where people can write in and leave at the café, which will become a place that people can come back and visit and see what they wrote the last time they were there.  Another thing which we want to incorporate is art on the walls of the store, and we will riso print this.  We want to take elements of images of Romainville and create layered pieces from historical places and modern-day themes.   For my Romainville study, I will create a set of 6 textile patterns based on architecture and history.  In my first project, I researched Romainville and Fondation Fiminco’s relationship with pharmaceuticals and  Hemostyl.  I want to incorporate this relationship and history with modern-day Romainville during the pandemic.  This will be a comparison of new vs. old medicines and ideologies along with drawing from architectural elements of the industrial area of Romainville.  My final piece will be a movie of these patterns and poster-sized printouts of the textile patterns.
