Grow – Bridge 5

To shift is to grow with direction. In my piece, I aim at depicting how I felt I have figuratively grown throughout my experiences and how I have dealt with my emotions. I explore two characters in my piece, one being my silhouette that faces the world, and the other that reflects within my thought. At first I sunk beneath my thoughts and allowed weeds to grow over me. Feeling trapped, I eventually found refuge within and express so, with a growing sunflower, stemming from the voice of my inner face. Later realizing that I was facing a world too chaotic to be held by a single flower. After finally having developed past internalized emotions, I still hadn’t broken away from the weeds that blurred my own understanding. I felt as if my true “growth” was only going to come when I cleared my own path that I had found here in New York and merged my inner self with my outer self. The end of the piece shows the strengthened bond of the external and the internal and loops back around to reiterate my process.
