With the topic of expanding into space, I reflected on an idea that I had about how climate change will affect the planet in the near future on a global and local level. I drew an art deco inspired building and mimicked the style of drawing from a cartoon TV show I grew up with called “Kim Possible”. I used photoshop and a Wacom tablet as my digital medium and later painted on vinyl to create an over lay that would represent Miami’s change within the century. The cutout portion of my project, was a branched idea of this “space”, which not only encompassed the geographical changes, but also the social changes that would come with rising sea levels. Throughout the process of creating the piece, I started to truly comprehend the harsh reality of climate change and with it, wish to raise awareness about the gravity of the situation.
