Story Board (Annika, Kimberly, Christine)

Alien Apocalypse

1. Normal night in NYC, a strange star appears in the sky

2. Two city kids and their grandma find this star to be suspicious, but nobody else does.

3. The star stays there for months and people forget about it.

4. One day the star falls to the earth and strikes in Manhattan, alien creatures explode from the inside of the star and attack.

5. The entire city is in a panic, cars getting smashed, people being eaten by the aliens, buildings being destroyed etc.

6. The kids and Grandma grab the first items they see (Our tools that we created-sock box, skate pack w/ board, confidence purse), and bolt out of their apartment.

7. They run to the subway station deciding that they will hide out in the underground tunnels of the subway.  In the subway they discover a massive reflective backpack that holds all of the items that they brought perfectly… how convenient!

8. The girl goes to look for some items or other people that are in hiding and on her walk falls asleep from pure exhaustion in one of the subway tunnels.

9. The girl wakes up abruptly as she hears and sees an alien coming her way! She slips her feet into the sock box, then whips the boxes at the alien which gives her just enough time to escape back to her family.

10. It has been a week and the three of them are reaching the point of starvation.

11. Having not heard any aliens in a while, the boy decides to go out into the city streets to search for food, or else they will all surely die of starvation.  He brings his skate board and skate pack to store any found items to bring back.  Conveniently, he finds two frying pans laying in the entrance of the subway station which he stores in his skate pack and uses for weapons.

12. As he is searching for food, three aliens come charging his way out of nowhere and the boy is able to whip out the two frying pans to fight them off.

13. Another week passes and the boy and girl are becoming antsy just sitting around in the subway station, so they decide to take a little walk around the tunnels. They are nervous about leaving their grandma alone but she insists that she’ll be okay.

14. Soon enough, the aliens find grandma… but no fear she whips out her purse and uses all of the little gadgets and jewelry inside of it to fight them.  She whips them with her pearl necklace and realizes the reflective ring that she has in the other hand blinds the aliens which is the only way to kill them… Grandma saves the day!

15. The boy and girl come back and grandma tells them her fantastic discovery.  The only way to kill the aliens is to blind them with any shiny material/reflective material.  Lucky for the three of them, that backpack that they found is made of reflective material!

16. They all run outside with the ring and backpack in hand running around the streets making the aliens drop dead like flies, the kids and grandma have reached victory at last!

I think the first section setting up the section in the city is important to the story (especially with the subway being a huge part). I think for the text you could change the fonts with lines that represent what is being said (sharp lines and big font for something loud, etc.). I also think the aliens having two mouths is clever. Maybe you can ever tweak them out more to be super bizarre and foreign. Overall I really like the story line and I’m interested to see how the final project comes out

I really like the concept! There is no description of how this will be presented. Is it simply a comic? Will there be text/ photographs/ sound included in the presentation or will a zine be created? I don’t see the tools being used or brought up at any point, so try to incorporate them into this.

Sorry, I see that the tools are included. Why do they grab the tools and do they serve a purpose?

I like the concept of the storyboard; it is very straightforward and detailed! You guys incorporated all of your tools well into the story and because of that I was able to understand the obstacles the characters were trying to overcome.

I think this is a really cool idea and I like how everything has a purpose in the story that somewhat makes sense. I’m curious as to how this is going to be made – illustrated? photoshop? photography? Also, how are you going to show the passing of time or are there going to be captions? I think it’s a solid story that is a bit humorous so it’s enjoyable to follow. I was always wondering what happened next. There aren’t any slides that lack a purpose which is really nice as well. If you are going to be illustrating this (or not, it could work as an after effect) I think it would be cool if you used reflective or shiny paint to make the back pack stand out and give it another dimension. Another thing that would be interesting is if not every part of every slide was in focus, that way you can draw more attention to your items. I can’t wait to see this!

Oh I forgot to mention, one thing I would suggest is to incorporate “gutters” into your storyboard. Gutters can help even out the time frame and it gives the reader a sense of anticipation because of that split interval between the panels. But overall, nice job!

I really like how the story is developed. Also, I like how each character has their own personality that best fits the tool. I think it lacks the suspense you would feel in an alien invasion or apocalypse. Overall, great job!

I think your story is great and there is a good sense of plot progression. What might help in portraying the story is close-ups of actions to really see what is going on each scene.

The story is awesome! I like that despite the awful situations the characters go through the story still has humor. At that I think that descriptive text, whether dialogue or narration, if included would really benefit the storyboard (not sure if that’s your plan for the final draft) and maybe try to have the backpack make a smoother transition into the story–although it could work depending on how the story is presented. (For example if the storyboard was, to some degree, sarcastic in the situation where the characters find the backpack. To do this the entire story would need to be exaggerated–this is a definite possibility seeing as the humor used is at least somewhat dark/sporadic, and I think the style of storyboard will be the determining factor in how well the absurdist humor is conveyed to the reader.) I like the fact that your story is drawn out over a long period of time, as this will make room for transitions in the final draft which, in comics/movies/etc. are usually pretty fun as they allow the person making them to dedicate anywhere from a sentence to an entire scene to them.

I think this is a clear and well done storyboard. It has a clear intro, climax, and a conclusion/ending. The board is clever but simple and reads like a comic book. What medium are you guys going to do it in?

I think you’re storyboard is incredibly clear and well designed. I particularly like your story idea, as i think it links in all three products really well, whilst also making the story captivating and interesting to read!
However, will you be incorporating your box into the story? and if so how will it link to the theme of events within the story?

I think this story is clear and concise and has a good storyline. I enjoyed reading about an alien attack in Manhattan and the struggle to try and find food to keep alive.
All the tools work well together with the box.
