Maria Del Pilar Lopez-Saavedra

Artist Biography

Maria Del Pilar (PILI) Lopez-Saavedra is a Colombian born, Miami raised, New York-based artist. They graduated from New World School of the Arts in 2015 and are currently pursuing a BFA/BA in Fine Arts and a Self-Designated Liberal Arts degree comprised of: Art as a social practice, Business + Non-Profit Management, History + Culture at The New School.

In 2017, Lopez-Saavedra has been featured in Colombia Fest Arte Joven and New Women’s Space’s Decolonize Your Body group show. Additionally, Lopez-Saavedra was awarded an MFA scholarship through a finalist position in PAFA’s 2017 exhibition Crosscurrents.

In 2018, Lopez-Saavedra finished an internship at Visual Aids and was featured in various zine/magazine publications including: NUMiNOUS Magazine: Taboo Issue, I Don’t Do Boxes: OUTlaws Issue, Reciprocal Art Mag, Molcajete Zine: A YEAR UNDER FASCISM, and Mujeristasco Issue III zine. Following Their first artist talk at El Sotano Art Space, Lopez-Saavedra co-curated Sentades en Silencio, a Latine group show centered around the theme of silence within/surrounding Latine/x communities which took place at The New Women’s Space.
