Representing space through body movement

We started off this project by choosing a space that would match the assigned dimensions – 8 cubic meters. The space that had almost identical measurements was Deniss’s bathroom.

We wanted to showcase this particular place not just by representing the room by itself but also showing its functionality and how it is used on a daily basis. We brainstormed for a while as we couldn’t figure out what we wanted to do. So we then thought about all things associated with bathrooms and the first thing that popped into our head were towels. From that point on we got very inspired by Mario Testino’s towel series. Its a series that started when he noticed Kate Moss sitting wrapped up in a towel in a changing room. He believes that being dressed in a towel gives people freedom to express themselves freely as there are no specific regulations on how one should wear a towel.

Above are some pictures we used as inspirations and below is our take on recreating his iconic series.

To make this project more developed in terms of representing the space and it’s functionality we decided to create a video that would make the subject of our work more clear. The video represents how the space is used in different ways throughout the day.
