Tangled In Disguise

As in the previous semester we did a lot of collaborative projects that were based around subjects  related to feminism for this project we decided to crate a piece that would from one side showcase how women have been dependent on the male “greatness” but from the other side it would be a piece celebrating the female body.

We decided to crate large scale figures using a variation of tangled lines that from a distance form a clear female silhouette but up close look just like a bunch of randomly scribbled lines. Making the drawings illegible is purposeful as it is a direct comment on disguising women’s contribution to the society.

Process

  1. Creating the concept drawings
  2. Creating the digital drawings
  3. Prototyping – using a regular projector to display the image on a large scale paper
  4. Creating the final piece – printing out the digital drawings on acetate sheets and using an overhead projector instead

  • painting the walls white
  • considering using different thicknesses of lines
  • considering using different shades of pink to emphasise certain body parts?
  • do we want to make them legible or no?

Final stage

  • beautiful
  • it doesnt in any way create the feeling that the portrayed. women are objectified
  • taking scale into consideration
