Cultural Objects {Kettle} – Drawing and Imaging

Cultural Objects Kettle – November 2018

Mixed Media, Acrylic, Watercolor

This project was assigned in Drawing & Imaging, November 2018. The project pertained to exhibiting three of the same object from different cultural backgrounds, and three of the same object in our modern day era through different translations and styles. The object depicted was a kettle- three of the cultural ones found in the MET. The Blue background painting of the pinkish kettle was of Italian Origin. The Kettle with the checkerboard pattern was from the aztec culture. The red background painting of the red kettle was derived from traditional china design.

The three modern kettles are more simple and designed for their purpose, rather than an art piece. The black kettle was found on amazon, but the design is derived from new European kettles. The grey kettle is extremely high tech, and would be the typical kettle found at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond during black friday sales. The red kettle is chic and traditional, and can be seen in most homes.
