Learning Portfolio Reflection Post

My name is Julia Sirosh. I am majoring in Fashion Design. I’m from the West Coast: Portland, Oregon but have been living in NYC for 4 years. . I am focusing on Womenswear. I am also interested in Film, Photography, and Music.

I am a designer who values quality and the production of my designs and how it will affect society. My aesthetics are mostly inspired by my memories, my childhood, my hometown in the PNW, nature and the dreamy whimsical lens that I look at life through.

I create my work through research, creating a concept/theme and then bringing those ideas into garments. I start from sketching and fabric manipulations. Then I continue to explore and relate that into fabric selection, draping and silhouettes
I have chose to pursue design due to the fact that I truly enjoy the process of design, the begining of creating and then throughout the process and even with mistakes seeing a final outcome. It is important to me since I want to create beautiful bespoke garments that will influence others in a positive way such as confidence and inspiration. Also in the future I want my clothing to be created in an ethical way with ethical practices where the workers/ people who will produce my garments will have a positive impact and have jobs even if my clothing as a result becomes more expensive.
I am hoping to create a brand that will combine my aesthetic quality and ethical practices.
