Integrative Studio & Seminar: Bridge Project 4- Integrated Search.

My research paper for Seminar 1- Memory was about the consequences of guardianship.

Here are a few excerpts from the paper and two works inspired by the paper for  Studio 1- Memory.

“We seek the protection of others. We seek the warmth and caring of another- to know that we have a “safety net”; that we have a guardian angel. Wether a guardian is a person, a belief or an object- we thrive to be cared for.  As recent cultural genre of superheroes is vastly growing and leaving its mark on a society longing for a hero and a savior, we thrive to believe that our future does not depend solely on us. It is agreed upon that the existence of a guardian is necessary, yet to what extant? What are the advantages of a guardian compared to the disadvantages? While the advantages of guardianship may seem obvious, the disadvantages may be hidden and unknown. Yet both, undeniably, shape the guardian and the percipient of the guardianship.”

The Superhero as a Guardian

The Female Superhero as a Guardian.

“As these two articles asserted, the importance of appointing a suitable guardian, fitting the characteristics of a caring and non- abusive caretaker, is ,without exception, a serious matter.”

The Negativity of a Guardian.

The Negativity of a Guardian.

“Albeit the various negative consequences of guardianship, we still continue to seek to guard and be guarded for. We continue to sacrifice ourselves to protect others. Why? Why do people prefer to sacrifice their own well- being for others? What makes us choose others over ourselves? While reasons to guard vary, they all fundamentally comprise of the humane value to care for and develop a continuation of their own selves. With the mind set upon another objective, guardians may forget the dark side of guardianship; the outcomes people do not see at superhero movies. Although guardianship, when done correctly, is undoubtedly needed and important, we must remember the consequences it may provide- guardianship has shaped many, leaving society not only with superheroes, but villains too.”
