Geometry of Visual Perception, the final drawing project

For our final project in Space and Materiality we were to draw on a transparent sheet on top of a plexiglass. The drawing was to be made while the Plexiglass used as a “window”. After having a sketch of an interior space on a clear sheet, we were to transform it onto a drawing paper and draw it with help of mechanical use to create a more precise drawing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of making this drawing. The precision of the final piece makes the process itself seem insignificant, and I cannot think of a negative thought about it. While sitting still for the first part of the drawing may seem annoying, it was only 20 minutes, not a long time to sit and draw still.

I do not know if I see reality in a deferent way- I feel like this was how I saw my surroundings all my life- from afar everything seems small, and as it does closer, it gets bigger. It may have been that because of my elective, this drawing did not change anything in my viewing of reality, since I already worked on perspective drawing this semester. Although the process was completely different and unique only to this class, the final drawing was similar and different at the same time from other perspective drawings I made this semester.

I think the process of making this drawing made it more enjoyable- I somehow felt I had more control of the drawing and the outcome. I think the process of the drawing, although longer and more demanding, can give the person drawing another name- a creator.

I would surely try and use this method again, maybe even for more than perspective drawings of an interior space: what would be the outcome of a portrait made with this method of drawing?
