Gehl Field Trip

After visiting Gehl, I learned several things that would help me with my final project. Firstly, the thing that struck me most is when she mentioned that every detail counts. This also applies in cities. An example she showed was the platform that bikers can put their foot on during red lights. I found this interesting because they notice every detail when urban planning even to the smallest ones for bikers. Another aspect was how far apart the stores have to be because of how our mind works when passing them. I thought it was interesting that they researched on how the mind understands our surroundings, therefore, adjusting the distance of each store in cities. Lastly, an example she showed was how they tested to stop utilizing busses in one of their locations. This showed me how they tested different things they can do to help better the city before permanently doing it. I think its important to test how the community reacts to these changes before permanently adjusting their lifestyle.
