Photo Essay

“To summon the Past and Future to the aid of the Present.”

In this project, I explored the idea of how culture can affect people’s health. By comparing the two cultures; American food culture and Japanese food culture, I wanted to show how influential each cultures are. I chose this particular cultures because one of them is more unhealthy food culture than the other. I wanted to show the comparison in this photo essay and tell that what we eat is who we are.

Through this photo project I learned that I could have chosen more healthy food for Japanese culture. The photos that shows Japanese food culture are found in New York, USA and the food are made for people in America, so it would have been more strong contrast if I took photos of more healthier food.

Adding to this, it was my first time using sound and I was not familiar with it. So I want to do better with editing the sound, for example make the sound fade at the end of the photo essay. Also I was overwhelmed with my photos since I didn’t have any experience of using camera. However I am happy with what I got as the result.
