The process:

I wanted the wood base to hold postcards. So I decided to make narrow slits in order to make the postcards stand. I made this with the cutter knife.

I made a stand for my hand in the center of the base, however, I made it little low, so when I have my postcards stand in the slits, my hand can not really see. I had hard time making the base since I had no experience with using drills or the machines at the wood shop. In order to make this, I tried many things that are new to me.

I used wire to stabilize my hand on the stand. I think this made my hand looking like a statue, which I wanted to be because I wanted my hand to be like an ornament.

However the process of having the slits on the sides of the base wasn’t successful. It was really hard to make the postcard stand straight, without being tilted. I also made my stand for my hand too low, so the main subject of this project was covered with postcards.

After a discussion with my professor, we ended up that it looks better without the postcards on the sides. I learned many things through this project.  From the technical process to the importance of knowing what the result would be before actually making it. I understood that making a model before making and accurate measurement are really important.
