About my video portrait

My video portrait about Serena’s memory with her dogs. For this video, I chose to focus on her memory which one of her dogs get a serious disease, but he survived. I thought this memory is really important for her and her dog. I wanted to convey some emotions like sadness, struggles and fear in this video. I made this happen by using appropriate sound in the background. Also, I got inspired by the work from Robbinschilds for using two images at the same time, so I had two images one showing what people see (outside), and the other represent the inner emotion(inside). I wanted to visually show the disease, and near death. So in order to show that I used dark hands reaching the dog to represent death. To represent the disease, I used the images of medicine and blood. I also have used some colors to show the transition in time. For instance, I used a black image to have a smooth transition to her memory.

Some challenges were visualizing the interview with Serena. Visualizing her dog’s disease was challenging, and I took a long time to come up with the idea. Also, the transition between the sad, terrible time to the happy, peaceful time after the recovery was difficult. I had to create a contrast between the two time period and it was hard because I did not have enough footage to edit both time periods. I managed to do that by having different sound, and extra footage.

I am proud that I created a 5 minutes video portrait. In the beginning, I was thinking it is impossible to create 5 minutes video. To be honest, I thought it would be challenging for me to visualize something like a disease and emotions, but I am glad that I overcame this challenge and created this video portrait.
