Biography

July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918

Gustav Klimt is an Austrian painter who was an important part of the Art Nouveau movement. He is one of the most famous decorative painter. He was one of the important members of the Vienna Secession(1897) which aimed to provide exhibitions for any yound artists and to bring best artworks from foreign to Vienna.

The most successful time for Klimt was his Golden Years, also known as ‘Golden Phase’. This is the period when he used the golden color on his paintings. His subject of the pieces are mostly female figure, and he uses symbols to represent psychological ideas and evoke the idea of freedom within art. His works are often delicate but it also gave the strong ideas that he wanted to imply. He also had done many decorations for different architectures.

“I have never painted a self-portrait. I am less interested in myself as a subject for a painting than I am in other people, above all women… There is nothing special about me. I am a painter who paints day after day from morning to night… Who ever wants to know something about me… ought to look carefully at my pictures.” – Gustav Klimt

His works

Hazuki Uno is a Japanese Student who currently studies Illustration at Parsons School Of Design. She has moved around the world since she was bron in Japan. She has lived in Mexico, Switzerland, Germany and currently living in New York City. Mixture of the experiences that she gained by interacting with people from different cultures, exploring different countries and her own culture are her biggest inspiration for her works.
