In this artwork, I wanted to show different perspectives of cherry blossom. The left one is a close up during the day time, the middle one is long shot during the night time and the right one is a  silhouette of the cherry blossom which the style was inspired by Japanese art. I made it this way because I think cherry blossom has its own beauty and it changes often. I also made each piece vertical which was also inspired by the style of  Japanese art. I also made all the piece merge into each other to show its all represent cherry blossom, even though it seems like different object.

Each Japanese words represent different words which were made or inspired by cherry blossom. The left one means another word for cherry blossom which means ‘dream plant’ literary. This word was made from the breathtaking beauty of cherry blossom. The middle one means night cherry blossom. Cherry blossom at night is usually lit with lights so that people can come and enjoy another perspective of the cherry blossom. The right word represents the scenery of cherry blossom which is gathered together and looks like a fog from far away. I think all the words which are made from cherry blossom usually suggest the remarkable beauty of it.

By focusing more on my object, there is a question that came up in my mind.

‘Why does Japanese people believe that cherry blossom is so significant in their culture?’

Therefore, I  want to explore more about its significance in Japanese culture through this project. As a Japanese, I want to figure out the answer and possibly show it in my final work.

From the bridge 1, I learned it is challenging to draw cherry blossom, and especially with watercolor. I struggled so much when I was working on it. However I am satisfied that I found what I want to focus on and find more about cherry blossom and its relation with Japanese culture.
