Assignment description:

Create a proposal of non-animated past project to animation.

The title of the piece: “Human beings”

This is an animation piece that addresses the idea that people are always connected with other people. The wood board with threads, which creates one big picture, is made out of series of nails and colored threads. This represents the main idea of the piece. I chose to have the thread colorful to show that each person is different but we are after all connected. The arcs made out of black thread are the symbol of a closed eye, which also represents individuals to emphasize the idea of connection. The colors that fill the gaps between threads represent a community. This project was made to show what earth looks like to someone who doesn’t know what earth is. I chose this subject because today, in fact, humans are mainly occupying the earth. Not only the outsiders, I wanted to address this issue to the humans.

The Animation will start with the wood board with base colors and the nails at the center. I am thinking of using the technique of stop motion to create the movement. The black thread that creates eyes will appear first, all at the same time. Then the colored threads come in meandering towards the wood board. The threads go different directions, some gets tangled but end up attached to the nails to create one image. There could also be in the middle, where there is a close shot of the thread getting attached to the nail in order to emphasize the idea of connecting. This animation could be a short gif, which could be repeated to emphasize the main idea. It represents a complicated subject or issue but with simple and abstract images and symbols. I think the use of various colors will catch audience’s attention and it will give ranges of interpretation for the audience. Also, the animation itself will be projected in a room where visitors can pick or draw their own thread which you can scan it, and it will be shown in the animation. This will be a great way to get audience’s attention and they can be part of an artwork. This animation is an interactive piece.
