 Artist Statement:

I am a fabric driven fashion designer. I’d like to get my design inspiration from the different type of fabrics. I try doing a lot of different things for my perivous projects. I try making the soft fabric into 3D shapes, laser cut, wave, pressing to create my own fabric all the time. I like doing lots of fabric testing, I always get the inspiration from the fabric testing and there are lots of happy accident happened during the process. For the silhouette, I more like to make 3D and asymmetrically shaped. Instead of sitting, imagining, thinking and drawing my designs, I more inclined to get the inspiration from collage so in this case most of my design is the geometric and sculptured shapes.

Most of my clothes are related to modern technology, as I always believe that technology will shape the future of fashion. There are many types of new technology that coming out every day from different areas. The invention of these new technologies may not come out for fashion but other fields. They can still involved in fashion in some ways, and maybe there will have some surprising results coming out, just like the invention of 3D printing. Technology can expand the possibilities of fashion and makes fashion more diversification.

As a design, I always think how can I make my design different than others? I always question myself what kind of designer that I want to be, what I can bring to women? Through the slow exploration, I begin to find my own way which is to make my own fabric that combining with other fields of technology and products. Use the traditional fabrics and materials to create new materials that can be used in clothes. I want to make something creative and my innovation is not only for the silhouette itself but also for fabric as well. I would always like to make something that women’s have never seen before, which is playful but elegant.

For the future plan, I would like to commit to more design of high technology and fashion sustainability. How to make fashion more sustainable is a big topic that I will need to explore and experience more.
