Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum

Although I have visited at the end of last year, Cooper Hewitt, exclusively focuses on  historic and contemporary design, Smithsonian Design Museum this time, presented an entire different theme “Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial” the fifth installment of the museum’s popular contemporary design exhibition series.

The exhibition let the visitors experience beauty through 7 lenses: extravagant, intricate, ethereal, transgressive, emergent, elemental and transformative.

All exhibits involved large amount of designers from all over the world. The time span of these collections can range from 1980s to 2010s. All pieces emerge an entire different sense,  form, material.

Staffs at Cooper Hewitt were friendly as usually, which gave me another reason to visit this delicate museum.

Jenny Sabin Studio’s work of a 52 foot long knitted structure commissioned by Nike FlyKnit Experience.  A transformation of biologic looking structure into an enormous body. The body, or more specifically the body in motion — pure performance itself.

This is a great overview, but I wanted you to pick 1 piece and write about it. Check back to the homework instructions.
