Poem “I am from…”

( The sound track is called It’s your day from artist Yiruma in Album <First Love>. )

I am from…            by Olivia

I’m from my murmuring and shouting “ where is my iPhone?”

I’m from my father’s laughter which sounds like a rap

I’m from the loud snoring of my neighbor

I’m from every watercolor drops mixing and joining with water

I’m from those strangers who suddenly talk with me like my old friends around the city

I’m from plenty of accessories that I have, but barely wear

I’m from the corn pie my grandma made with her secret recipe

I’m from the spicy and hot smell of a big pot of hotpot

I’m from the smell of NYC with top notes wind, middle notes coffee and base notes busy taxies

I’m from the 747 flight to NYC in Xi’an airport

I’m from the wish I made in front of cinderella’s castle in Orlando Disney Land

from “I wish I could be skinnier and taller”

I’m from a blaze of wind from the Hudson River

I’m from greetings with doorman everyday

I’m from the little white teddy bear that I hold every night

I’m from the pair of silk pink ballet shoes with its beautiful ribbons

I’m from my great pal in winter— a humidifier

I’m from my favorite non-fiction book— Just Kids

from the first sentence in that book,

“It was hot in the city, but I still wore my rain coat.”
