On Thursday, our drawing class took a field trip to the Met Breuer. There, we saw two exhibits: one on unfinished paintings and another on Nasreen Mohamedi’s ultra-precise line drawings. The unfinished paintings were very inspirational to me, as they allowed me to glimpse at the artist’s plans and imagination for the piece. Some pieces were left unfinished intentionally, others were interrupted by death or illness. There were two floors of these paintings, one for old, baroque portraits, and another from more modern artists.

Nasreen Mohamedi’s line drawings looked incredibly painstaking and precise. The designs were barely able to be deciphered from more than a foot away, and it is not until you get up close that you see all the different intricacies to her designs. Her pieces as well as her photographs explore a geometric, sharp aesthetic, that although rely heavily on perfectionism,  give off the appearances of being perfect geometric shapes.
