bridge 5: studio

My experience in Integrative Studio has been full of learning, growing, and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the assignments, my peers, my professor, and the constructive criticism that I was given on all of the bridges. I think the moment of productive failure for me was definitely during the first project. I think the worst thing I’ve ever made in my entire life was what I presented for Bridge 1.

Even though I had given it a lot of thought, it was something that I could’ve done a lot better. After the critique, I realized that if I was gonna be in art school, then I was gonna have to do a lot better than that not only presentation wise, but all across the board. (conceptually, artistically, etc.)

Bridge 2 translation project

I used a lot of materials that I was not familiar with upon my enrollment into this school. I am a photo major so at the beginning of the semester I think I ran away from experimentation and working with new mediums other than the one I was already familiar with. I quickly realized that by doing that, I was holding myself back creatively. So I began to work with things like acetate, vinyl, clay, spray paint, acrylic paint, various types of glue, photoshop (which I swear is a whole other language), and illustrator. I will definitely be working and incorporating these materials into my major.

My idea of art has changed a lot from when I entered the course. There are so many creative directions or lanes that you could take when approaching the process of creating art. I have learned a lot about presentation this semester, and can see myself applying this knew found knowledge to my major in photography, and asking myself the important questions about why I chose to use something in a project, and the effect that that has on the people that view it. I have also learned a lot of general professionalism tips when it comes to engaging in collaborations with other artist, or just showing appreciation.
