Studio, Bridge 1: Reverse Research

Digital Mockup

Krzysztof Wodiczko (born in Poland, 1943) is a public artist who has added a critical dimension to the problems of urban life through his work in cities all over the world.

In August 1999, his first “Public Projection” in Japan was held in front of the A-Bomb Dome. Motion images of the hands of fourteen people, including survivors of the atomic bomb (Japanese as well as Koreans) and the youth of Hiroshima, were projected upon a river embankment below the Dome along with their voices.

My experience doing the research for this first Bridge was interesting and very informational. I learned a lot about a medium that I have not really researched about or known any artist to utilize. Group projects usually are not my thing but working with my group members on this project was cool. We did a great job of organizing, executing, and splitting up the work. My thoughts about the artist and artwork assigned are very strong. Conceptually I loved his work and loved how he incorporated architecture. My feelings about our proposed alternative artwork were okay. I thought it was a good idea but several components of it definitely could have been amplified like aspects such as the location. The information that I got from the critique was very useful and I will definitely try to take the things discussed today into consideration for future projects.
