According to Pacific Standard magazine, “the country’s largest public housing agency says it’s made major progress responding to residents’ requests for repairs. Residents tell a different story.” After interviewing residents in some of New York City’s public housing facilities, their statements and responses to the condition of their homes included real recounts such as, “Maria Santana, 60, [who] says she lives in fear that dripping water will come down on the electrical outlets and start a fire. She’s taped and covered some of her outlets with plastic as a precaution.” The New York Housing Agency is the nation’s largest public housing authority and has suffered from a decade of underfunding and aging infrastructure.
