Bridge #2: Real Life Photography

Real Life Photography

Amanda looks through the lens of a camera to find her inspirations; this is her medium. She lives for emotion, happiness, connection, and sincerity. Her work consists of the capturing of people’s natural emotions and reactions, aiming to catch people in mid-laugh or smiles. The photo itself is not all that makes up her work and affects Amanda. She strives to see people’s reaction to her photos, and that continues her drive.

Rather than setting up a scene and putting someone in a great outfit, Amanda loves imperfection. To her, photography is the ability to show people the genuine aspects of life and people. She prefers photographing people with no makeup on or in their “own personal environment” such as their bedroom. She is extremely personal with her photography. In fact, lately she has been carrying own her camera less and sticking to the camera on her phone. To Amanda, the effect of pointing a camera at someone takes away their genuine reaction at that instant. People pose and think too much about what they’re doing when they see a camera. She feels that with the ease and quickness of just snapping a photo on her phone, she can capture that ‘time in a frozen moment’ feeling, one that cannot be replicated.

She has a general theme of happiness within her photos and she finds herself documenting people’s life or actions. Day by day, Amanda sees the sincerity in people and works to show that to the rest of us. Striving for perfect imperfection, we are able to see the raw beauty of real life.

Capturing sunlight.
Moments of panic

of history. A tool. A makeup
of weaknesses.
I model the abstract. I model the young.
