Integrated Seminar 2: Journal Entry Day 3

My Ideal Place to Live

Most people who have lived in the city would say that their lives would be in in a quiet place like the countryside or near a beach and vice versa. This obviously goes with the saying “the grass is always greener on the other side.” But despite the fact that I’ve lived in a big city since I was born, my ideal place to live and work in would still be a big city. Waking up every morning and steeping outside to see the hustle and bustle of people purposefully scurrying around, large sky scrapers lining the landscape and cars frantically honking at each other has become a normality for me. There is something in the hordes of giant advertisements and billboards that can’t be replaced by the serenity or calmness of any countryside.

Also, considering the fact that I’m a design student, communication design to be specific, a large and populated city like New York provides so much inspiration and so many opportunities. One just needs to walk out into the streets to find new things to be fascinated by. In a place with millions of people, there is bound to be diversity, which means that one can meet and socialize with new kinds of people every day. You get to learn about different cultures, go to museums and art galleries and grow into a more knowledgeable individual. Of course, there are certain cons such as heavy traffic and excessive noise pollution, it gets negated by the great institutions present in this city. I feel like New York is one of the most powerful cities in the world and if there is any place that one can make it in, it is here. it is truly a place which makes me feel like there is no place where I’d rather be.
