Investigating Public Spaces/ The New School Collection

The work of art that I chose was Rain and Wall, video diptych by Richard Barnes placed in the Parsons building. Richard Barnes is a photojournalist who graduated for University of California, Berkley, and started working on the field in the 1980s. So, this piece which was made in 2012 is one of his later works. His works have always been influenced by fine arts, they are personal, but at the same time explore social and cultural issues. For example, this video piece is a first person view of a moving car/train in a rainy night. It is supposed to be videos created on location along the US/Mexico border by migrants. It is a very apt video, especially in the aftermath of the presidential elections and the anti-immigrant reforms.
