Final proposed plans for Flux Pavilion:
In this course, we started exploring different iconic houses, where I was assigned the Chemosphere House by John Lautner. The first step was to hand draft the house based on the information available from the internet. Next, we were asked to focus on a phenomenon that each one felt that was appropriate for each house. Since the Chemosphere House was built in a way that it is raised above the ground in order to minimize its effect on the surrounding nature, I chose fluidity/wind as my study. Upon completion of the phenomena, each student was required to create a “ribbed model” of the house and the chosen phenomena specifically using the laser cutter.
After concluding the first half of the course, we moved on to design our own pavilion, incorporating the phenomena studies previously explored. Diagramming the phenomena of fluid movement inspired me the form of Flux Pavilion. The multi-level pavilion is open to the elements, allowing a free pathway for the movement of people, air, and views.
