Methodology Plan for ARS Fashion paper:

In order to carry out my research in a timely matter I will continue to dive deeper in my discovery of the topic of body image representation in the fashion industry or their lack of. In addition to this I want to watch videos, listen to podcast and continue to find various articles on this topic. After I am satisfied with all of my sources I will begin to write my introduction paragraph by introducing what is it that the fashion industry considers to be a “perfect body” and who in modern and past times represented this. In addition to this I will reference an image from the Today Show that shows what is the ideal body type for men and women versus the actual body type of average American. Following my introduction I will speak begin to speak about my main purpose of the paper, How plus size men or women (or people without the “ideal” body type” are represented and served in fashion marketing, retail and image making (Such as editorials and on the runway). Throughout the paper I will speak about iconic models such as Twiggy and Kate Moss and speak about how they represented the body type that everyone women wanted and craved. I will speak about iconic plus size models such as Ashley Graham and Emme and speak about how they have shaped the current state we are in the fashion industry. In addition to this I will speak about various fashion brands that have tried to go against the “ideal” body type and market themselves towards all body types. Such brands include, Universal Standard, Chromat, Aerie ect. I will also mention brands such as Victoria Secret who chose to represent only one body type. Following this I will speak about photographers who have chosen to only shoot one body type – such as Corinne Day, Guy Bourdin and Terry Richardson. Overall, I want my paper to speak about the overarching idea of what is plus size, what is the ideal size, and who determines it.
