Bridge 1, Sound Piece

For my project, I wanted to add a cinematic element to my “self-interview”. I came up with the idea of having my younger self randomly find a tape recorder in his basement that is addressed to him. Confused, he hits play and an voice recording plays of present-day Berek warning younger Berek about a tragic event that is going to happen to our family. Younger Berek is confused and keeps messing with the tape recorder, trying to fix it. By doing so, he gets bits and pieces of information from his future-self about this tragic event and how it will effect different members of his family. In the end, younger Berek puts it together that older Berek is warning him about his parent’s divorce. Most importantly, present-day Berek is telling younger Berek to enjoy the time with his family while they are all together and to not take for granted the little time he has left with his family before his parents officially separate.

For years I have struggled with the fact that, when I was younger, I never realized how much my life was going to change once my parents got divorced. Many times in the past I’ve pondered with the idea of how different things may have turned out had I been expecting this to happen. In essence, that is how I was inspired to create this piece.
