NYC Tourist/Citizen Lens

During the beginning of our boat ride, I got to see how beautiful the city is from the perspective of a tourist. Seeing all the landmarks of New York from an outsiders perspective really showed me how truly unique this city is. That being said, on our ride back to the city, I saw my surroundings from a different perspective. No longer was I a tourist looking at the city and what it has to offer, I was a citizen and saw the city from a more problematic perspective. Instead of looking at the skyscrapers, I decided to look down at the water below me and saw how dirty and polluted it was because of the city. Also, on our way back to the city, I saw multiple ships carrying loads of garbage bags. Finally, I took a moment to look around at all of the boats cruising in the water and realized that they were polluting the water even more and making it even worse for the citizens that live in the city. In my opinion, you become a citizen of New York once you realize the environmental harm that the people of New York cause to the city.
