Artist Statement:

For my Wood Shaping piece, I was influenced by the spinal cord of the body. The main thing I was focusing on was looking at a way for the structure to to be able to come apart and be put back together. I was really trying to incorporate the idea of a body from the inside out. The process of making this started with the base of the spine which was the center portion of wood which holds all the other ones together. Each small square is held with a notch. The successful part of this project was the repetition of the squares and the way they make the object look visually pleasing.
